The article presents the results of laboratory studies, the purpose of which was to identify quantitative changes in protein fractions in the blood serum of diabetic patients, depending on the severity of the disease. The object of the study was the serum of patients aged 20 to 60 years. The examined patients with diabetes mellitus were divided into 3 main groups. Group I - patients with type I diabetes mellitus (severe form), the second group - patients with type II diabetes mellitus who were previously treated with oral hypoglycemic agents and were transferred to insulin therapy due to the development of resistance to sulfanilamide drugs (moderate form of the disease). The third group consisted of patients with diabetes type II who did not receive insulin and were treated with oral hypoglycemic agents (mild form of the disease). Each group included 18 diabetic patients. The results of the study revealed that in patients of group I, the content of total protein was slightly higher, and in patients of groups II and III, it was unreliably lower compared to the control. Albumins in patients of group I decreased by 29% (p<0.001), in group II by 16% (p<0.001), and in group III by 11% (p<0.05) compared with the control. α-Globulins in patients of group I remained almost at the control level. In patients of group II, it increased by 38% (p<0.05), and in group III, α-globulins differed little from the control. β-Globulins in patients of group I increased by 65% (p<0.05), and in group II by 80% (p<0.001), and in patients of group III by 57% (p<0.001). The content of γ-globulins in patients of group I increased by 16.43%, in group II by 7.2% and in group III - 0.32%. Albumin/globulin ratio in group I was 0.91, in group II – 0.94, in group III – 0.01 (normal 1.3).
