The article presents the results of a study conducted to explore the correlation between morphometric indicators оf brain atrophy and clinical symptoms in multiple sclerosis (MS). 88 patients (58 women, 30 men) with MS aged 18 to 60 years were under observation. 56 patients had relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), 32 patients had a secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) type of disease course. All patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging with voxel morphometry. It was found that in patients with MS, despite pronounced changes in white matter, the degree of disability depends on the severity of brain atrophy and is not related to the volume of focal lesion. There are significant relationships between morphometric indicators of atrophy of the gray and white matter of the brain and the degree of disability and cognitive impairment in RRMS and SPMS.
