Abstract

This article presents the results of a study conducted to investigate the differences in the clinical course of chickenpox in adults compared to children during the post-COVID period, as well as the role of specific prophylaxis for this disease. The study compared clinical and laboratory indicators between 91 patients, consisting of 63 children aged between 6 months and 18 years and 28 adults over the age of 18. Only patients who were not vaccinated against chickenpox were included in the study. Symptoms and laboratory indicators in different age groups were analyzed. Statistical analysis revealed a significant increase in body temperature, ALT and AST levels, leukocytes, and CRP in adults compared to children, with notable differences recorded (p<0.05). More frequent clinical signs in adults included headache, bullous and hemorrhagic rashes. In contrast, the disease in children was primarily characterized by mild rashes and a short course (p<0.001). The more severe course of chickenpox in adults during the post-COVID period was associated with weakened immune systems, the lack of specific prophylaxis, and the presence of chronic comorbidities in the majority of patients. This situation emphasizes the necessity of vaccination and prophylactic measures for individuals in risk groups.
