The article presents the results of a study conducted to determine risk factors that may affect the quality of life of first-year students studying in higher education institutions. The study was conducted based on the SF-36 (Short Form-36) and HBSC (Health Behavior in School in Children) questionnaires among 783 first-year students of the Azerbaijan Medical University and the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. The analysis showed that according to some socio-demographic indicators and lifestyle, there are significant differences between girls and boys, as well as between students studying at different universities. It was also found that fatigue after study, poor nutrition, suicide attempts, life satisfaction factor and most socio-demographic characteristics negatively affect the quality of life of first-year students. Thus, the analysis of the data obtained showed that the influence of socio-economic status and lifestyle on the quality of life of students is at a high level.
