The article presents information about a study conducted to assess the risk factors for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. A retrospective case-control study was conducted 312 women aged 18-44 years. The main group consisted of 232 women with high-risk HPV, the control group consisted of 80 women with negative HPV testing result. The main risk factors for HPV infection include: young age (≤29 years) – 47,8 ± 3,3% of cases, marital status (single) – 64,6 ± 3,0% of cases, lack of higher education – 55,2±3,3% of cases, smoking – 23,7±2,8% of cases, alcohol consumption – 13,8±2,3% of cases, early onset of sexual activity (≤18 years) – 36,6 ±2,9% of cases, oligomenorrhea – 31,0±3,1% of cases, oncological experience of any localization in relatives of patients – 56,0±3,3% of cases. The role of the use of various methods of contraception, surgical manipulations on the cervix, the number of births and abortions, and the presence of somatic diseases has not been proven. HPV awareness also did not reduce the risk of infection (p>0,05). Identification of the reasons for the wide spread of HPV is of exceptionally important epidemiological significance and provides the basis for the development of rational measures to prevent this disease.
