The article presents the results of a study conducted to investigate the occurrence of the Wormian bone of the coronal suture in the metopic skull.
On 198 skulls, the cranioscopic method was used to study the simultaneous occurrence of the permanent metopic suture and the Wormian bone of the coronal suture; such a case was found on one skull. Using the craniometric method and the computed tomography method, this skull was examined.
As a result of research on the male skull, belonging to the 1st period of adulthood (22-35 years), in the coronal suture on the left, 1 Wormian bone was identified with an anteroposterior size of 10.50 mm and a width of 11.83 mm. The metopic suture's length was 99.95 mm. The metopic suture was complete, in other words, it was located between the points of the nasion and bregma. The flattening of the occipital region made it possible to determine the occipital deformation of the skull. Also, in the lambdoid suture on the left 3 Wormian bones and on the right 5 Wormian bones were found. In the basal norm, excessive elongation of the spine of the sphenoid bone and the formation of the process were determined. On the right, the length of the process was 8.65 mm, the width at the base of the process was 5.66 mm, and at the apex 2.14 mm. The length of the process formed by the spine of the sphenoid bone on the left was 6.33 mm, width at the base - 6.39 mm, at the apex - 1.37 mm.
