The article presents information on a study aimed at investigating the levels of bone metabolism markers in the blood of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP). The study involved 179 patients in the early stages of CKD, among which 110 were diagnosed with CGP. The control group consisted of 100 practically healthy individuals. The study measured the concentration of free hydroxyproline (FH) in the blood, alkaline phosphatase, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23), and the fractional composition of collagen in bone tissue obtained from the alveolar process of the jaw. The results showed that FH levels in the blood were elevated in moderate and severe CGP, while TRAP levels were elevated at all stages, both differing statistically from the control group. In CGP patients, the amount of insoluble collagen was 1.62 times lower, the amount of neutral salt–soluble collagen was 1.57 times higher, and the amount of acid–soluble collagen was 1.29 times higher compared to controls. Higher FGF-23 levels were also detected in CGP patients with CKD. Thus, the findings indicate that early detection of metabolic changes in bone tissue is of great importance for monitoring the course of CGP.
