The article presents the results of a study conducted to determine the prevalence of congenital maxillofacial anomalies in various regions of Azerbaijan endemic for fluorosis and to investigate the etiological characteristics of congenital anomalies in the maxillofacial region. The study was carried out in multiple stages. The data on the frequency of congenital anomalies of the maxillofacial region for the period 2011-2020 were processed; medical records of 38,460 women in labor who gave birth to children with congenital defects of the maxillofacial region were analyzed; 348 medical records of schoolchildren with mental retardation studying in a boarding school were analyzed; the frequency of intrauterine anomalies of the maxillofacial region was determined during ultrasound examination of 2100 pregnant women. It was found that congenital defects of the maxillofacial region are more common in the endemic fluorosis zone. 15,46% of cases of the total number of anomalies were defects of the maxillofacial region. At the same time, in non-endemic fluorosis regions, no maxillofacial anomalies were observed.
